Loan Exit Counseling

Before you graduate, or when you drop below half-time attendance, you are required to complete an exit counseling session. Both the Stafford and Perkins Loan Programs require Exit Counseling. The Exit requirement is part of the federal consumer information act and provides students with important information concerning their rights and responsibilities. The following are samples of the type of information students can obtain as part of the Exit Interview process:
  • Keep copies of all your loan papers. This should include your financial aid award offers, application/promissory notes, and any correspondence relating to financial aid.
  • Promptly notify your loan holder of any address or enrollment change.
  • What additional possibilities exist for deferments /forbearance.
  • Am I eligible for cancellation benefits.
  • Is consolidation a reasonable option for me?
