Excellence in Community Outreach
Professor, Social Change and Development
This award recognizes Andrew Kersten’s extensive outreach initiatives, particularly in developing exhibits and educational programs for both the National Railroad Museum and the Neville Public Museum. Kersten’s students can expect to be involved in projects from start to finish — from comprehensive planning to post- evaluation — benefiting both the University and its community. “Few have brought the academic University to the public sphere as consistently and successfully as Professor Kersten,” said an off-campus colleague. “His influence on two of the region’s largest historical institutions is profound.”
Kersten has collaborated widely with local historians and educators on continuing-education programs and the enhancement of K-12 learning including the Northeastern Wisconsin Teaching American History Program.
