While managing judicial affairs in the Office of the Dean of Students, Mark Olkowski earned the reputation as "unsung hero" on campus, a "troubleshooter with a positive attitude," and "a cool-and-collected problem solver."

Olkowski is often called upon to resolve issues with students who are struggling academically or personally. These students could be causing disruptions, experiencing legal jeopardy, struggling with serious illness, personal problems or homelessness. Olkowski deals with these situations with patience, and is often seen as a firm but calming force. Through his ability to navigate volatile situations, he is often able to bring the student and institution to agreement on a corrective action that serves the best interests of all involved.
