Cuernavaca (Mexico) Partnership Team, 2014 Recipient of the University Award for Excellence in Collaborative AchievementWhat began as an immersion experience for Education students has become an international collaboration and lesson in applied learning. In partnership with ASLI-Spanish Language Institute, UW-Green Bay faculty members Steven Kimball and Aurora Cortes initiated a Travel Abroad course to Cuernavaca, Mexico in January 2008. Later that same year they developed student teaching opportunities for Education students at two schools in Cuernavaca.

The popular Travel Abroad course has evolved to include tracks in UW-Green Bay's Business Administration, Education, Nursing and Social Work programs. Senior Lecturer Karen Jick of Social Work, and Associate Professors Lucy Arendt, Cofrin School of Business and Christine Vandenhouten, Nursing, lead a motivated group of students to live and study in Cuernavaca, Mexico each January. Together, the students learn the value of "cultural competence," while growing as professionals in their fields.
