This endowment will provide discretionary funds to support the mission of the David A. Cofrin Library.
Alfred O. and Phyllis E. Holz Environmental Award
Discipline: Environmental Science | Student: Not ApplicableThe Alfred O. and Phyllis E. Holz Environmental Award Fund was created in spring 2008 with a gift from the estate of Phyllis Holz. The fund was established to support the Environmental Science program at UW-Green Bay, with the donor specifying that the funds are to be used to provide field and/or laboratory research equipment needed for the study of plants or animals. Phyllis was a 1932 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and served as a business education teacher at a number of Wisconsin high schools. Phyllis passed away on October 31, 2007. Alfred was a lecturer at UW-Green Bay in the early-1970s. A photographer and graphic artist by trade, he had worked to develop a course in audio-visual techniques relating to environmental interpretation. Alfred was teaching this course at UWGB when he died in March 1976.

He remained in Green Bay and was a driving force on behalf of various University and community initiatives. A carillon, those close to him say, was part of his long-term wish list for the campus he founded. Gifts to this fund help preserve the Weidner Memorial Carillon and the surrounding spaces.
