Desi McCullagh Memorial Annual Scholarship

Discipline: General

Student: Soccer student-athlete

This scholarship fund was established in memory of Desmond "Desi" J. McCullagh, who passed away unexpectedly in 2014 at the age of 73. Desi was a UW-Green Bay alumnus, the first person to sign a national letter of intent to play soccer for the Phoenix, and UW-Green Bay's first-ever scholarship athlete. Desi enjoyed a successful soccer career with the Phoenix and graduated with honors and a degree in political science. After graduation Desi also volunteered countless hours coaching youth sports throughout the years, being particularly dedicated to his passion of establishing and supporting successful youth soccer programs in his community. Desi was a true Irishman, a proud Marine, a great soccer player and fan, an avid cruiser, and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan at heart. But most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, granddad, son, brother, and person in so many people's lives who will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. This scholarship will benefit student-athletes on the soccer team at UW-Green Bay who set outstanding examples on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
