Jill VandenheuvelJill Vandenheuvel

I had an incredible time as an English assistant in France - so much so that I decided to stay a bit longer.

I found a job!  Not teaching, but I'm staying in France for as long as things go well - I'm the receptionist at the Hôtel Château Sallandrouze in Aubusson, France.

I get compliments every day on my French- some people can hardly tell I'm not a native speaker, believe it or not!  They all asked where I studied, and they come to the conclusion that "they must have good language schools over there!"  Thanks to you

Jemma Lund, a May 2007 graduate, was selected for a prestigious Rotary scholarship, enabling her to study in Turkey for a year.  She will pursue graduate studies in international relations with an emphasis in Middle Eastern studies at Bilkent University in the Turkish capital of Ankara.  Lund earned her degree in elementary education with an international studies certificate and minors in French, music and geography. She is believed to be only the third American student in a decade to receive a scholarship from the Turkish Rotary Clubs.

Kathi Koepke is in her second year as chair of the World Languages Department of Pius XI High School (Waukesha) where she has taught French for 7 years.  Licensed as well in Spanish (Spring 2009), she teaches Spanish as well.  She regularly takes her students to France and has taken them to Mexico as well.  A wonderful, gifted teacher, Kathi is active in the profession, having presented at WAFLT(on World Lang. teaching strategies) and having taught a teaching strategies workshop to teachers at her own school and another to local Elementary school language teachers.

Ashley Marie Ballweg is pursuing her graduate degree (Masters of Arts in Teaching) with teacher certification in French at the secondary level and her Master’s Degree in education at the University of Indianapolis (expected graduation May 2010).

Mary Chernick is a very active alum (no surprise to anyone who knows her).  She volunteers in a program (CASA) under the CHIPS order of the court for abused and neglected children.  In her spare time, she adores her four grandchildren as well as spending time with her daughter, who is now a UW—Green Bay student.

Erin (Quinn) Gutschow is a truly gifted teacher who leads the French program at West DePere High School .  She and her family are delighted to welcome another daughter  (in December 2008).

Nathalie Nérée is in her fourth year of teaching at Green Bay East High School. Her children are 9 years old and 5 years old.

Nadine Butler is a French Teacher at West De Pere Middle School

Khou Thor is a French and Spanish teacher at De Pere High School.  In addition to her undergraduate French degree from UW-Green Bay, she graduated from the Professional French Master Program (PFMP) at the UW-Madison in December 2007.  She takes a 10 day field trip to France every other year, plans to take her current students to the Concordia Villages (MN) 4-day immersion weekend program this year.  She loves to go back to France to visit friends and family approximately every four years.
