Third party payments are those paid by the insurance companies. Because of these payments, most do not recognize the full cost of health care, which can drive up the cost since we demand more of it.
We have great facilities, but for the money we spend on health care we really should be healthier as a nation. Based on many health care quality indicators, the U.S. is running behind many nations (including some developing nations).
(C) Medicaid is incorrect. This provides health care for
the poor.
A national health insurance program would be paid by the federal government
through tax revenues. By some estimates, it would cost an additional
$400 billion/year in increaed taxes. This is a problem for many,
but those in support say that is how much we currently spend on health
care now so there is no difference. Since the government would be
insuring all, there would be no need for the health insurance industry...you
can probably guess how they feel about a national health insurance program.
This means that you either "play" in the system. That is, you
provide your employees with health care coverage. Or, you must "pay"
a fee to the government that will be used to provide insurance for those
without coverage (including your employees).
