Physical Changes

Many of the physical problems aging adults deal with can begin with an injury or accident. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is a web page that deals with reducing morbidity, disability, mortality, and others costs associated with injuries.

To learns more on how to avoid injury see the fall prevention program outlined by Temple University's College of Allied Health Professions Department of Physical Therapy.

An additional site addressing the importance physical activity and how it enhances physical functioning later in life can be found at the Midwest Roybal Center. The idea behind the Roybal Center's work is that enhanced physical activity among functionally limited older adults will break the cycle of disablement and improve the quality of life.

Issues of age discrimination, concerns about being taken advantage of by health care workers, senior centers and in some cases family can create great stress. Another big concern in aging is what to do if you are no longer able to make decisions about health care. The website sponsored by the Department of Health and Family Services has information for Wisconsin residents about all of these issues and many others.
