Academic Excellence Scholarship Endowment

Description: This fund was established as a part of the 1996-97 University Employee Drive and has been an option for employee giving each year since. The majority of the funds have been gifted by employees of the University. Recipients of this scholarship are new or continuing students who meet certain academic criteria.
Albert Einstein/ Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship

Description: This scholarship, created by Drs. Kumar and Sivu Kangayappan, is awarded to upper division students who have successfully completed at least one significant research project or who have demonstrated the potential for research. Dr. Kumar Kangayappan is a professor of urban and regional studies at UW-Green Bay and Dr. Sivu Kangayappan is a physician.
Althea Steele Lederer Scholarship

Description: The Althea Steele Lederer Scholarship was established in 1979 by Albert Lederer in memory of his late wife, Althea. Mrs. Lederer studied journalism and worked professionally as a newspaper writer and editor until illness forced her to retire. This scholarship is awarded to a continuing student majoring in art or journalism.
Alvina A. Hintz Scholarship

Description: Cecilia Hintz, a former staff member at UWGB and 1986 graduate of the University, established this scholarship in memory of her mother Alvina, who had a great love and respect for education. The recipient(s) must be a physically challenged full-time or part-time undergraduate student registered with the campus Office of Disability Services (preference given to hearing-impaired students), demonstrate a financial need, and must be enrolled as a returning adult/non-traditional student (traditional students acceptable if no returning adult/non-traditional students meet the criteria).
Anne Kok Scholarship for Social Work

Description: This fund was established by Paul Kok in memory of his wife Anne, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in the spring of 2008. Anne was the director of the UWGB Social Work program and friend to all at the University. The scholarship will be awarded to continuing full-time undergraduate student majoring in social work or related field, pursuing an academic-sponsored international learning experience, or is a student at the University of Jordan seeking enrollment at UW-Green Bay. All applicants must be in good academic standing.

Barbara Sydow Memorial Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was created in 2009 in memory of former UW-Green Bay staff member Barbara Sydow. Barb began her University career as a financial specialist in the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences Office in 2003, before becoming an academic department associate with the nursing program in 2005, where she continued to work until shortly before her death. The scholarship will be awarded to students in the Professional Program in Nursing who have demonstrated a record of service to the community. Students in the degree-completion program are, typically, registered nurses who hold associate degrees or nursing diplomas and are seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees.
Ben J. and Joyce Rosenberg Professorship

Description: Gary Rosenberg and Barbara Rosenberg Shure established this award in memory of their parents, Ben J. and Joyce Rosenberg. The Rosenbergs were longtime residents of Green Bay and initiated philanthropic support for UW-Green Bay as early as 1967.

Bonnie M. and Fergus P. Hughes Annual Scholarship

Description: The Bonnie M. and Fergus P. Hughes Annual Scholarship was created in November of 2007 to assist students majoring in Human Development and/or Psychology. Fergus Hughes began his career at UW-Green Bay in 1972 as a faculty member in human development and psychology. In 2004, Professor Hughes moved from the classroom to serve as Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences until his retirement in 2007. Bonnie Hughes, a 1974 UW-Green Bay graduate, has been active in campus and community activities, including service on the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Bradford L. Cook Memorial Scholarship

Byron L. Walter Family Scholarship

Description: Friends and family established this scholarship in 1981 in memory of Byron and Minnie Walter, and their daughter, Arlene. Mr. Walter was a successful Green Bay businessman who was involved in the founding of Paper Converting Machine Company. Two residence halls on the University campus have been dedicated in memory of Byron and Arlene Walter. The scholarship is awarded to either new or continuing students who have demonstrated leadership skills and maintain high academic achievement.

Mr. Damkoehler, who died in 1983, is the founder of Damkoehler Chemical and Paper Inc., Oconto, Wis. His son, David Jr., is a professor of art at UW-Green Bay. Scholarships are awarded to students who graduated from high schools in the Wisconsin counties of Brown, Door, Forest, Marinette, Oconto, or Shawano.

Green Bay Photojournalism Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2006 by Christopher and Carolyn (Campshure) Sampson in memory of their fathers Allen E. Sampson and Theodore J. Campshure. Ted Campshure was a photographer and photoengraver for the Green Bay Press Gazette, while Al Sampson was a photographer, reporter and sports anchor with WBAY TV-2 and WLUK TV-11 in Green Bay. Recipients of this scholarship are continuing students of high academic achievement who are pursuing an academic and/or programming interest in photojournalism or documentary photography.

Henrietta Gallagher Scholarship

Description: The Henrietta Gallagher Scholarship was established in 1996 from a significant gift by Henrietta Gallagher. Henrietta Gallagher was a former teacher, a strong advocate, and an active participant in lifelong learning. She taught English at Green Bay East High School and was also a librarian. Mrs. Gallagher received the UW-Green Bay Chancellor’s Award in the spring of 1996. Recipients of this scholarship are new or continuing students of high academic achievement. The scholarship award was expanded in 2006-07 to include students pursuing graduate nursing classes at UW-Green Bay.

Jim currently serves as General Manager of Gustman Pontiac GMC in Green Bay. The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have graduated from a high school in Northeastern Wisconsin and demonstrate financial need. The recipient must be pursuing a degree in business administration and must be active in the field of music (music major or minor, pep band, etc).
John and Anne Rose Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 1997 by Betty Rose Meyer in memory of her parents, John and Anne Rose. John Rose was credited with saving the banking industry in Green Bay during the crash of 1929. He then successfully guided the local financial and business communities through the turbulent early years of the Great Depression. Mr. Rose built what was then Kellogg Bank into what is now Associated Bank of Green Bay. His leadership is credited with helping build a strong foundation for Northeast Wisconsin’s growth and development. Anne Rose did much to enhance the area’s quality of life through her civic and volunteer involvement. The scholarship is awarded to students from Wisconsin who have displayed leadership skills and a strong motivation for learning.

Description: Eleanor (Mac) LaForce created the Joseph and Mac LaForce Business Scholarship in memory of her husband who passed away in 2007. Joseph LaForce was the founder of LaForce Inc., the Green Bay-based distributer of doors, frames, and related hardware. What started as a small local hardware supplier, has grown to include six offices throughout the Midwest with approximately 400 employees. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by the UWGB Business Department Scholarship Committee. Awardees must be full-time students majoring in business administration or a related field, be Brown County residents, have reached junior status and be in good academic standing.
Joseph J. and Gloria E. Schott Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: Mrs. Gloria Schott established this scholarship in 2003 in memory of her late husband, Joseph Schott. She passed away in 2007 and her son Terry renamed the scholarship to reflect his parent’s commitment to higher education and love for music. The eligible recipient must be of junior/senior status, in good academic standing, and with a major in music – preference is given to those who play the clarinet.

Michael Thron established this scholarship fund in 2007 in memory of their good friend and former colleague, Professor Julie Brickley. Dr. Brickley passed away in 1998. Description: The family of Lorraine M. Noll created this scholarship in her memory to recognize her contributions to, and leadership for, the Nursing Program at UW-Green Bay. Her children and their spouses, Andrew and Lisa Noll, Joseph and Sally Noll, Robert and Amy Noll and Sarah (Noll) and Don Geiger, chose to create a memorial scholarship in the summer of 2008.
Louis O. Erdmann Memorial Scholarship for Theatre

Description: The Louis O. Erdmann Memorial Scholarship for Theatre was established in 1996 by family and friends of the late UW-Green Bay faculty member and former chair of the theatre department. Erdmann was nationally recognized for his accomplishments in theatre production at UW-Green Bay and Kent State University. His wife and theatre partner, Eugenia, is a professor emerita in theatre at UW-Green Bay. The Erdmann Scholarship is awarded to a continuing student who maintains a balance of classroom and production excellence, with the ability to work in a variety of production areas as a true generalist in honor of Lou Erdmann’s impressive and varied career in theatre.
Lucy Krchma Education Scholarship

Description: The Lucy Krchma Education Scholarship was created in 1986 by the Krchma family and friends of the family. Lucy was a teacher for 50 years and taught in Madison and in the Luxemburg-Casco area. This scholarship is intended to recognize and assist students in the education program who have achieved a record of academic excellence. Evidence of past and current leadership activities and community service, particularly of an educational nature, is considered in the awarding of this scholarship.

Margo Delahaut Memorial Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established by Tim and Janice Tierney in 1977 in memory of their close friend, Margo Delahaut. This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen who graduated from Green Bay East High School in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Tim and Janice are Green Bay East High School alumni, and Tim graduated from UW-Green Bay in 1982.
Marjorie M. Weidner Staff Development Fund

Meredith B. and John M. Rose Scholarship

Description: Meredith and John Rose established in 1985 what was then the University’s single largest scholarship. Mr. Rose, who passed away in 2003, served as president of Associated Bank (formerly Kellogg Bank) for many years and provided leadership in the financial community for downtown Green Bay redevelopment, countywide infrastructure improvements, and public education. One of the campus’ academic buildings bears the name of John M. Rose (Rose Hall) in recognition of his work on behalf of the campus and community. Mrs. Rose was a strong advocate and volunteer for Planned Parenthood and had been involved with the organization since its beginning. The scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who graduated in the top ten percent of their class and continuing students of sophomore status or greater who are in high academic standing.
Micheal Kazar Memorial Scholarship

Description: The Michael Kazar Memorial Scholarship for Art was established in 1993 by Adeline Kazar in memory of her late husband, Michael, who was professor emeritus in the art department at UW-Green Bay. Scholarship recipients are recommended by the art faculty.
Mildred T. Jorgenson Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 1999 with a gift from the estate of Mildred T. Jorgenson. She was a resident of Green Bay who established a trust to provide support to the UW-Green Bay women’s basketball program and other area non-profit entities. Northeast Wisconsin Engineering Scholarship

Description: Frederick and Patricia Baer established this scholarship in 1987. Mr. Baer, who passed away in 2006, served as the president of Paper Converting Machine Company, Green Bay. Mrs. Baer remains a special friend of the University. L.G. Wood Hall, an academic building on campus, is named after Mrs. Baer’s father who played a key role in bringing the University to Northeastern Wisconsin. The scholarship is awarded to full-time, first- and second-year students who are registered in the pre-engineering program, meet specific course requirements and are in excellent academic standing.
Patricia M. Hinckley Scholarship in Athletics

Description: Dr. James and Patricia Hinckley created this scholarship in September, 2008, with Dr. Hinckley’s intent being that the scholarship be named for his wife only. The Hinckley’s have been long-time supporters of UW-Green Bay and most specifically of its intercollegiate athletics program. Dr. Hinckley has been the orthopedic surgeon for the UW-Green Bay Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for more than 30 years. He was inducted into the UW-Green Bay Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 for meritorious achievement. Patricia Hinckley was a long-time teacher in the Howard-Suamico School District.
Oliver and Margaret Trampe Scholarship

Description: The Oliver and Margaret Trampe Scholarship was established in 1975 by prominent Milwaukee businessman, Oliver Trampe, and his wife, Margaret. Mr. and Mrs. Trampe are now deceased, but their generosity continues to benefit students at UW-Green Bay. Recipients of this scholarship come to UW-Green Bay from the Milwaukee area and have demonstrated high academic excellence.
Patricia L. Hoppe Memorial Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2000 to honor Patricia (Trish) Hoppe, a student who passed away in 2000 from cancer. She enrolled in UW-Green Bay’s Extended Degree Program in 1998 while living in West Bend and working for the president of a finance firm. She graduated with a perfect 4.0 gpa and was a great ambassador of the Extended Degree Program. While providing strong emotional support for two friends who were battling cancer, Patricia was diagnosed herself. This scholarship assists highly motivated students who are enrolled in the Adult Degree Programs (formerly Extended Degree).

Description: This scholarship was established by Professor Emeritus Paul and Professor Emerita Thea Sager. The Sagers are retired from UWGB. Paul was a professor in the Natural and Applied Sciences area and Thea in Human Biology. The scholarship is awarded to continuing students at UW-Green Bay who have demonstrated excellence in a student research project or research paper that has been entered in the Academic Awards symposium and who has a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The recipient will be chosen by the faculty members of the Biodiversity Committee.
Paul D. Ziemer Scholarship

Description: Initiated by Dudley D. Birder and friends in 1995, the majority of the principal used to fund this scholarship was derived from a community-wide concert to commemorate the life of Paul Ziemer. Mr. Ziemer, former president and CEO of Wisconsin Public Service, was a highly respected community leader and strong patron of the performing arts. The fund is awarded to vocal students who demonstrate genuine financial need.

Description: Betsy Hendrickson established this scholarship in 2007 in honor of her husband, Philip, for the benefit of students who declare a major in business administration, accounting or related fields. Phil and Betsy have been friends of the University for many years. They created the Philip J. and Elizabeth B. Hendrickson Professorship in 1987, and have generously supported the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, Kress Events Center, Founders Association, Phoenix Fund and more. Betsy earned a master’s degree from UWGB in environmental arts and sciences in 1979. Description: David Richardson established this scholarship in memory of his brother, Charles, who passed away as a result of cancer. Charles Richardson was a Sheboygan area businessman who had a love for the saxophone and jazz music. He was a good friend of John Salerno, an associate professor of music at UW-Green Bay. The scholarship is awarded annually to students who play saxophone, are registered and perform for jazz ensemble, and are recommended by the music department faculty. The corpus of this scholarship was developed primarily from gifts from friends of the UW-Green Bay jazz program.
Robert H. Maier Memorial Scholarship

Description: The Robert H. Maier Memorial Scholarship was established by Jane A. Maier in 2006 in memory of her late husband, Robert, who was UW-Green Bay’s first vice chancellor in 1967 (and was the University’s second employee). Robert also served in various administrative positions and on the science and environmental change, and public and environmental faculties; before leaving in 1979 to become vice chancellor at East Carolina University. The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time continuing student in good academic standing who has demonstrated financial need.

Description: This scholarship was established in 1999 by Dr. Rolfe E. White, who served as professor at UW-Green Bay from 1969 until his retirement in 1998. Dr. White’s community service has consistently been on behalf of low-income residents in Brown County. He was instrumental in founding the NEW Community Clinic and is past chair of the Task Force for the Homeless. This scholarship is to assist future social workers who show interest in working with people affected by poverty and related issues.

Description: The Second Gear was a small consignment and retail operation located near the Garden Cafe that dedicated a portion of proceeds to the store.
