Scholarships Video
Ever think of giving to the UW-Green Bay Founders Association scholarship fund? These four students hadn’t given it much thought until they, as recipients of Founders Association scholarships, saw firsthand what a benefit they are to students.
It's comments like these — and others in the video above — that show the value of how scholarships can help offset the costs of higher education.
“Having the scholarships gives me more time to focus on my school work.”
“It gave me a chance to focus on my studies and not a job, so I can be a full-time student.”
“I have the luxury of taking a couple of days off (work) when I need to study or finish projects, and that is huge for me.”

Mary, Amanda, Allen and Beth have a lot of things in common. They are all UW-Green Bay students who understand the importance of higher education. They are leaders in the classroom and in the community, and all have benefited from the generosity of others. Scholarships are critical at UW-Green Bay as we look to offset the rising costs of a college education. Annual contribution from alumni and community members allow the University to provide funding to nearly 250 students each year. Your support of scholarships is essential. Let Mary, Amanda, Allen and Beth tell you why.
Allen Voelker
Biology major
The scholarships that I’ve received have really helped me out in my college career. I pay for all my own tuition and my living expenses, so having the scholarships gives me more time to focus on my school work, and it also lets me pursue activities that I am interested in and not work as much as I might have to if I didn’t get scholarships.
Mary Mattson
English major
I can look at it in a couple of different ways. It’s an entire month’s rent. In finals time, it’s a couple of days off (work) to actually study. I’ve been pretty much a full-time employee most of the time that I’ve been a student and this year I have the luxury of taking a couple of days off when I need to study, finish projects, and that is huge for me. I can also look at it as a way to buy my books. It did pay for all of my books this semester with lots left over, and I expect it to cover my books next semester, as well.

I’ve been helped by this scholarship (by) just eliminating the stress of paying for that (tuition). As my sister and I are twins, and our parents have to pay for both of us at the same time to go, so it’s really a financial stress. It was really liberating. Also, it gave me a chance to focus on my studies and not a job, so I could really be a full-time student.
Beth Rodenhauser

The scholarship, well, my parents are paying for two kids going to school at the same time, so that really helps. Last year, I was an RA so I did a lot. I had a job to help pay the bills, too, and I keep my 4.0 up, so it’s really hard to do studying and a job. So every little bit helps out a great deal.
Giving Back
Allen Voelker
Personally, I think that UW-Green Bay has offered me a lot and supported me and my learning so as an alum, I’m really looking forward to giving back and helping other people pursue their goals and improving themselves.
Mary Mattson
Oddly enough, I’m already considering my ability to give back to the alumni scholarship program. It’s helped me a lot and I’d like to see it grow to help more students. Knowing that you can go to a school that your parents went to, it’s a good school, it’s a good community to be in, it’s really nice.
Beth Rodenhauser
It’s a really nice thing to do, just from a human level when people need help. If you help them out, I think you can create great satisfaction out of helping others.
Amanda Rodenhauser
I’d like to give back, just to give people the opportunity to develop to their full potential. I’ve seen in the schools, a lot of kids’ financial stressors are a huge cause. They don’t think that they can go on to higher education and they might not think it’s a reality that they really can go to college and become what they want to be and live up to their full potential and then they give back to the community. So it’s like paying it forward, it keeps going on and on and it’s a beautiful thing.
