Admission 

This page provides a summary of the admissions process for the UW-Green Bay Master of Science programs. For more complete information consult the current Graduate Catalog.

Admission Requirements

An Admission Committee from the specific academic program chosen by the student considers each complete application. Entry requirements for full admission include:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  2. A 3.0 GPA measured on a 4.0 scale for the final two years of study. Schools not using a grading system will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  3. Additional prerequisites for entrance to the specific program chosen.

Applicants who do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement or who have other deficiencies may be admitted on a provisional basis.

International students must be prepared to submit a minimum score of 550 on the paper test or 213 on the computer based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). An Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or other similar evaluation service is required in order for an application to be considered. International applicants must also show official evidence of financial resources adequate to provide for educational expenses.

Application
Application forms may be completed on-line or will be mailed in response to telephone requests to 920-465-2123; written requests to Graduate Studies Office, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Dr., Green Bay, WI 54311-7001; or online requests to gradstu@uwgb.edu.

Required documents are:

  1. The completed application form and the current fee.
  2. A 200-300 word statement describing principle areas of academic interest, capabilities, experience, and reasons for pursuing the M.S. degree.
  3. Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from each previous college or university attended, sent directly to the UW-Green Bay from these institutions.
  4. Three letters of evaluation from persons who can assess the prospective student's academic potential.
  5. GRE general test or GMAT scores less than five years old if required by the academic program. See individual program descriptions.

Under requirements of the Buckley Amendment to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, student files are open to their inspection except for letters of recommendation for which the right of inspection has been waived.

Deadlines
Applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendation required for entry into the M.S. program should be submitted as early as possible in the semester preceding the desired beginning semester.

Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $45.00 is required of all students who apply to any of the graduate programs of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Special Students
Persons holding baccalaureate degrees or higher who wish to enroll in courses but who do not want to pursue a degree may enroll as special students.  graduate credit will be awarded provided that the student registers in graduate level courses as a graduate special student, and pays graduate fee.

Transfer Credit Policy
Transfer credit is defined as credit earned at an institution other than UW-Green Bay which is to be applied to UW-Green Bay  master's degree requirements.  A maximum of 12 semester credits of graduate work will be accepted as transfer credits.  acceptance of transfer credits is subject to review and approval by the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research.

Tuition and Fee Costs
Fees and tuition are set by action of the Board of Regents and the state legislature, and are subject to change.  Minnesota students have reciprocity and may pay in-state Minnesota tuition and fees.  The current costs are available from the Bursar's Office.

Financial Assistance
Graduate assistantship are available on a competitive base and carry a stipend of $10,474 in 2005-06.  A limited number of non-resident tuition waivers are available to recipients of assistantships.  In addition, several other grant or aid programs are a available including Perkins Loans, Stafford Loans, or work/study awards.  Minority group members may apply for Advanced Opportunity Grants or Wisconsin Indian Student Assistant Grants.  For more information about loans and grants contact the Financial Aid Office.
