Research Assistantships

Project-specific Research Assistantships are frequently available through externally supported faculty research projects. Students funded through specific research projects are required to contribute directly to the completion of project objectives, report to the principle investigator of each project, and generally tailor their thesis projects around these objectives. Project-associated assistantships are awarded through a selection process overseen by project principle-investigators. Students are encouraged to discuss these opportunities directly with potential major professors.

To qualify for all assistanships, the applicant must:

  • Be fully admitted to the ES&P master’s degree program
  • Be enrolled for a minimum of six credits of course work each semester and no fewer than 15 credits during the entire academic year
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average for graduate courses
  • Have outstanding potential for teaching, scholarship, and research
