Advanced Ceramics (Art 431)
Assignments and Requirements

Work in Advanced Ceramics is largely self-directed towards producing a coherent body of work. The focus for each student will be developed in consultation with the instructor at the beginning of the semester.

All students, however, are required to complete the following.

1) Advanced students are expected to fire glaze kilns. Regardless of any individual student's focus, they must help load and fire the c/9 reduction glaze firings for the studio. You must present a minimum of 2 completed kiln logs for firings you supervised during the spring 2008 semester.

2) Present a proposal for the use of one ton (2000 lbs.) of clay in one piece. Your proposal should include a narrative description, site requirements (if appropriate) and illustrations of the proposed finished piece. Due Wednesday, April 2.

3) Design and construct an vessel that will challenge someone else's assumptions. The challenge may be physical, conceptual, political, spiritual, etc. The challenge must be demonstrable. Due Monday, May 12.
