Tom Haevers helped develop quality, affordable on-campus housing and an active student community at the
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The former director of housing and residence life was honored in 2004 with the dedication of this new 120-bed
“apartment suites” building is dedicated in his name.
Haevers, a Green Bay native, joined the University in 1980 just as it was buying its first student-housing-a
privately developed apartment complex adjacent to the campus. By the time he retired in 2001, the housing
“village” had developed into a park-like setting with 24 buildings and room to accommodate 1,550 students.
Haevers’ helped build a dynamic residence life program, supervised staff growth and promoted initiatives
enhancing the on-campus atmosphere and student retention. His work earned him the UW-Green Bay Founders
Association Award for Excellence in Academic Support in 2000.
The naming of the Tom Maki Living Learning Center recognizes the vice chancellor for business and finance and
his administrative leadership in helping the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay build quality, affordable
student housing.
Maki has been vice chancellor for business and finance at UW-Green Bay since 1991. A native of Marinette, he
joined the University in 1978. The Tom Maki Living Learning Center, located on the first floor of the new Tom
Haevers Hall, is designed to connect learning to life by providing a place to learn, collaborate and achieve
through classroom experience, study, recreation, and other activities.
