Richard J. (Dick) Liebl was honored in 2003 with the dedication of this
new 120-bed student housing facility in his name at the University of Wisconsin-Green
Bay.
A lifelong resident of Brown County, Liebl is owner and president of Liebl Construction
LLC, the general construction company that has built 15 residence halls at UW-Green
Bay since the mid-1980’s. Each project has been completed on schedule and
within budget.
Liebl was recognized for his dedication and professionalism in building quality,
affordable housing for UW-Green Bay students. He has worked closely with University
Village Housing, Inc. (UVHI), a private, nonprofit corporation that has financed
the construction of the residence halls at UW-Green Bay.
Liebl has been an active member of the Green Bay community. He is a longtime
member of the Home Builders Association, former president of the local chapter
of the Great Lakes Sport Fishermen, member of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation,
volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a founder of the Special Olympics
Fish-O-Rama program.
Richard J. Liebl Hall was the second of three new 120-bed residence halls to
open at UW-Green Bay between the fall of 2002 and the fall of 2004. The buildings
feature “suite-style” apartments with private bedrooms and shared
kitchens and bathrooms. Suites will house up to four students. Richard J. Liebl
Hall will bring the total on-campus housing capacity to about 1,790 residents.
The spirit of civic involvement that led Duane E. (Dewey) Schrader to become
an early and influential advocate of student housing at UW-Green Bay resulted
in the naming of the Dewey Schrader Living Learning Center.
As vice president-business banking for Associated Bank in the 1980’s, Schrader
led the effort to involve Green Bay banks in supporting innovative financing
of residence halls at UW-Green Bay through University Village Housing, Inc. His
community activities also included leadership positions with Options for Independent
Living, the Optimist Club of Green Bay and its foundation, and the Service Corps
of Retired Executives. The Dewey Schrader Living Learning Center on the first
floor of Richard J. Liebl Hall is designed to promote a tradition of collaboration
and community learning, with space for formal and informal student gatherings.
