Residence Halls

R.E. Small Hall opened in 1987, and was part of the second phase of residence halls built at UW-Green Bay and helps
make up the community of Small, Cletus, and Warren.
About the man: R.E. Small was born in Milwaukee in 1922. Educated at Northwestern University in the field of engineering
and employed professionally in Green Bay's paper industry in sales and marketing, Mr. Small became in 1963 the standard
bearer of the campaign to establish a four-year university in Northeastern Wisconsin. As chairman of citizen committees,
he was a persistent, energetic, and effective leader on behalf of the educational needs of the region. In the years
following authorization of the University, he has encouraged the university to grow, and to fulfill its potential. Mr.
Small passed away in 1993.
His achievements: 1963 -- Chairman, Chamber of Commerce Education Committee; 1964-1965 -- Chairman, six-county
Northeastern Wisconsin Education Committee; 1965 -- Chairman, University Site Selection Committee; 1966-1976 --
