Energy Conservation and Sustainability

UW-Green Bay and the Office of Residence Life are committed to sustainability and energy conservation in all facilities, services, and programs. For more information regarding opportunities for individuals and organizations to take an active role in campus sustainability at UW-Green Bay, see Sustainable GB.

Sustainability in Campus Housing

Some highlights of "going green" in housing include energy efficient boilers, water-saving toilets and faucets, motion sensitive lighting, energy efficient windows, insulation, and building materials. Further, recycling is a mainstay on campus and students are provided with recycling containers.

Some things you can do to conserve energy in your room or apartment include:

  • Turn off lights when not in the room
  • Recycle paper, plastic, aluminum, tin cans, and batteries
  • Keep the water on low and turn off when brushing teeth
  • Limit bathroom exhaust fan use
  • Turn off your computer at night
  • Encourage your friends to lower their energy use
  • Turn down your heat
  • Avoid leaving windows open in cold weather, close and latch windows
  • Unplug appliances when they are not in use
  • Turn off your radio, computer and TV when not in room

Energy Conservation Awareness

Each year, the Residence Hall and Apartment Association (RHAA) sponsors an building energy-saving contest. Watch your campus email for details and look for ways you can conserve energy and participate in sustainability efforts on our campus.
