University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Campus
The
University is a young and thriving institution with a dynamic atmosphere
and a fresh approach to student learning. The University, located on the
northeastern edge of Green Bay, enrolls 5,551 students representing nearly
all of Wisconsins counties, 23 other states and 32 other nations.
On campus, students find a rich array of clubs, organizations and entertainment
options, including a highly successful NCAA Division I sports program and concerts by world-class entertainers at the Weidner Center. The University
was founded with a mission to offer an education that was interdisciplinary
and focused on problem solving, and today it remains committed to providing
students with opportunities for hands-on learning, research, internships,
and community involvement. UW-Green Bay holds a full, 10-year accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and its programs in chemistry, the dietetics component of Human Biology, music, social work, teacher education, and nursing have accreditations or approvals from appropriate professional organizations. 97 percent of our tenured faculty hold the highest credential in their fields.
The setting is safe, scenic and comfortable, with the 230-acre Cofrin
Arboretum with biking and hiking trails, a nine-hole golf course, and
spectacular views of the bay. Academic buildings are connected by enclosed
walkways. The institution is heavily invested in state-of-the-art academic
facilities and special amenities for students. A high-tech classroom building
including a
geographic
information systems laboratory and an outstanding natural history collection
and herbarium opened in fall, 2001. The eight-story Cofrin Library is
regarded among the finest in the state. Other additions include a University
Union, attractive on-campus housing with single rooms, private baths and
apartment-style options (both have plans to expand in the future), and
newly dedicated student space in the University's Weidner Center.
Students, staff and community members enjoy many traditions including cultural events such as Pow Wow, Kwanza, and international food festivals, fall convocation, spring fling, and academic receptions, but one of the largest traditions is Fall Convocation.
Fall Convocation is a calling to assemble for all faculty, staff, and University community to hear the Chancellors address for the new academic year. New faculty and staff members are formally introduced to the University community. The Founders Association Awards of Excellence are presented during the program. Convocation is an invigorating kick off for the academic year and is usually held the week before classes begin.
Also available are the Phoenix Sports Center facilities and programs, The Phoenix Bookstore, on-campus banking, and the communiversity park located on the bay of Green Bay.
