Position: Residence Hall Manager (Area Coordinator)

Essential Job Functions: Assists in carrying out the mission and philosophy of Residence Life, a department providing services to over 2,200 students and 3,000 summer guests annually. Serves on a team of five Area Coordinators, supervising a team of 63 Resident Assistants, assigned to 27 residential facilities on campus. Assists in recruiting Area Coordinators; and in hiring, training and evaluating RA staff. Ensures a high quality of student life on campus through delivery of community development activities, educational programs, and leadership involvement opportunities for residents. Rotates on-duty 365 days per year, and responds to roommate disputes, incidents of student misconduct, student crises, and emergencies. Ensures a residential community conducive to sleeping, academic study, responsibility and accountability, personal development, and safety. Advises individual students, student leadership groups, student conference delegations, and peer conduct review boards. Coordinates administrative activities and services with the Business Operations and Facilities Management areas of Residence Life. Assists with summer camp and conference operations and services. Serves on appropriate committees as requested. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate/Assistant Directors.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelors Degree and two years full-time experience in Residence Life
    - or -
    Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field AND graduate level housing experience
  • Knowledge in student development theory, issues and trends
  • Experience in staff supervision, student advising, community development, educational programming, and student leadership development
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, administrative and organizational abilities, and computer proficiency
Start Date: July 2010
Conditions of Appointment: Position is a full time appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). Special Conditions of Appointment: Requires on-campus residency, over 40 hours per week, varying schedule, occasional travel, and service on-duty during evenings, weekend and holiday hours.
Salary: Advertised salary of $32,500. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan. (Total Compensation Estimator)
