Orientation

New Employee Online Orientation

Because we appreciate the talents of all our faculty and staff, it’s important that you learn about the University and understand how your work will contribute to our mission. Attending our orientation programs provides not only an introduction to how the University works, but gives you an opportunity to meet other new faculty and staff from across campus.

Getting started with a new job as Faculty or Staff is not always easy — new employees must become comfortable with their new surroundings. Orientation is a continuum of activities that occur during the first six months of a new staff member's employment. These activities may include job specific orientation, personal benefits orientation, Human Resources orientation, and assistance from a Campus Resource person or Mentor, all with the goal of helping people acclimate to a new professional environment.

Orientation plans are tailored to meet the unique orientation needs of new staff members, and most importantly provide supervisors and new staff with check points on orientation progress. The Orientation Checklist will assist in making sure these check points are covered. This is an interactive plan, with the supervisor, new staff member, co-workers, and the University all playing a vital role in its fulfillment. Steps for a successful orientation include:

  • Supervisors and new employees meet the first day of employment to review the orientation plan. Part of this plan includes completing the New Employee Online Orientation.
  • Supervisors and employees meet periodically to review progress, in particular, during or around the first week, first month, and third month of employment.
  • Supervisors and employees sign off on the orientation plan after completed and forward to the Human Resources Office.
We encourage an atmosphere where faculty and staff can feel personally and professionally challenged and share our institutional vision and values. If you have any questions regarding orientation, please contact Human Resources at ext. 2390 or hr@uwgb.edu.
