Position: Assistant Professor of Human Development

Essential Job Functions: Will teach one or more of the following undergraduate courses: middle childhood and adolescence, gender development, introduction to human development, or courses in family studies, developmental anthropology/sociology or related to area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training and who have an interest in pre-adult developmental issues. The teaching load is 21 credits per academic year with possible reassignments. Advising and supervision of independent studies and internships is expected. Will perform scholarly activities consistent with rank, advise students, perform institutional service, and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.
Qualifications: Doctorate Sociology, Anthropology, Human Development, Psychology or related field from an accredited institution earned or anticipated prior to starting date. Higher education teaching experience preferred. Must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship; commitment to undergraduate education; communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
Starting Date: August 24, 2009
Conditions of Appointment: Position is a full-time academic year appointment. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan. Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years although tenure decisions may be at any time. Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure. Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).
Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
