| Essential Job Functions: | The candidate will teach introductory and upper-level physics courses supporting a minor; is expected to participate in an interdisciplinary undergraduate Environmental Science program; will have the opportunity to contribute to the master's level Environmental Science and Policy program; is expected to engage in scholarly activity in physics or in a related field relevant to undergraduate Environmental Science; and advise students, perform institutional service, and contribute to the ongoing development of the department. |
| Qualifications: | Required: Doctorate in physics or closely related field by August 2009 with a demonstrated strong interest in student-centered teaching. Must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship; commitment to undergraduate education; and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues. Preferred: Evidence of teaching effectiveness and recent scholarly activity. |
| Starting Date: | August 24, 2009 |
| Conditions of Appointment: | Position is a full-time academic year appointment. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan. Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years although tenure decisions may be at any time. Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure. Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).
