Position: Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics Education

Essential Job Functions: Will teach elementary and secondary methods courses in mathematics education. May also teach other undergraduate or graduate courses in areas consistent with expertise and program needs. Will perform scholarly activities consistent with rank, advise students, perform institutional service, and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate or ABD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution. The successful candidate must have knowledge of the teacher preparation process, demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate education, and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues. At least 3 years of successful K-12 classroom experience. Experience teaching a methods course to undergraduate teacher candidates preferred.
Starting Date: August 24, 2009
Conditions of Appointment: Position is a full-time academic year appointment. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan. Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years although tenure decisions may be at any time. Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure. Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).
Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
