| Essential Job Functions: | Will teach 21 credits including courses on African-American history, U.S. History surveys, upper-level History courses as appropriate to area of specialization, and possibly interdisciplinary courses in the Humanities. Interest in teaching on issues of ethnic diversity is highly desirable. Will perform scholarly activities consistent with rank, advise students, perform institutional service, and contribute to the ongoing development of the department. |
| Qualifications: | Required: PhD in History or interdisciplinary field with an emphasis in African-American History or Civil Rights History from an accredited institution by the beginning date of the appointment August 25, 2009. The successful candidate must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate education, and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues. Preferred: Interest in Ethnic Studies and higher education teaching experience preferred. |

| Conditions of Appointment: | Position is a full-time academic year appointment. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan. Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years although tenure decisions may be at any time. Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure. Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).
