Essential Job Functions:

The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining the markup, styling and functionality that comprise the University web site. The successful candidate will work as part of the Web Services Team and use his or her knowledge of web standards, responsive design, usability and accessibility to implement web sites, provide support for existing web templates, and integrate technologies that relate to the campus web presence.  In addition, the candidate will ensure the accuracy of information on the website. This position works under the supervision of the MIS Manager in the Information Services Division and works collaboratively with other departments.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced knowledge of modern web development standards to design and  implement websites.
  • Update and maintain existing templates for campus websites.
  • Use responsive design techniques to ensure content adapts appropriately to mobile devices and browsers.
  • Understand and apply Web accessibility standards and address browser specific compatibility issues.
  • Assist in Web Server administration including setting permissions for web shares and security within the Kentico Content Management System.
  • Design and develop web applications within Kentico Content Management System or using other web development tools.
  • Create and maintain websites in Kentico Content Management System.
  • Create and maintain blogs in WordPress and Kentico Content Management System.
  • Provide analytic data as requested via Google Analytics.
  • Assist in online form and survey creation in Kentico Content Management System and Qualtrics Survey software.
  • Provide User training on website development and maintenance.
  • Represent the Web Services team on campus and system-wide IT project teams as requested. 
  • Take the lead in meeting with campus departments to assess their current web presence and make recommendations for future updates.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and University Communications on defining and enforcing standards for the Campus website pages and approving content.
  • Assist in hiring, training, mentoring and assignment of projects for student employees on the Web Services team.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Web Development or related field OR three (3) years of professional experience in web development
  • Demonstrated ability in using HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, JQuery and/or CSS to develop websites based on provided graphical designs
  • Experience implementing and using Responsive Web Design
  • Knowledge of Web accessibility standards and usability practices
  • Knowledge of browser behaviors including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and other emerging web browsers, including mobile devices
  • Experience integrating social media such as Facebook and Twitter using APIs
  • Experience with web programming languages such as ASP.NET and PHP or willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience in the use and support of a content management system preferably Kentico
  • Experience in the use and setup of Google Analytics accounts and reporting features
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server / Visual Studio / .NET / Team Foundation Server
  • Understand the product development lifecycle of a web application from analysis through implementation

The successful candidate will have strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse campus community on technical issues, demonstrated integrity and strong leadership, and the willingness to be part of a collaborative team with other design and technology specialists. This position also requires the ability to organize, analyze, and prioritize workload effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines, and an aptitude for problem-solving and basic system administration skills. Position is a full-time academic staff appointment.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). Salary:

Salary Range of $52,000 - $56,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
