Essential Job Functions:

The Campus Facilities Planner position reports to the Director of Facilities Planning and Management and participates in aspects of capital planning, budget preparation, space planning and design, and project management. This professional position functions under general supervision and is responsible for researching and developing complex documents that pertain to the needs of higher education. This position will require a working knowledge of site and transportation planning, architectural and mechanical systems and International Building Code requirements.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare documents that support the University's capital planning process in a way that is consistent with UW System policies and procedures.
  • Gather data necessary to analyze facility space and equipment needs of the University.
  • Gather data and prepare material required for various multi-year physical planning and funding documents.
  • Provide cost estimates, scheduling, conceptual drawings, and when required, bid ready drawings and specifications for All Agency Projects, Enumerated Projects, Small Projects and in-house construction projects.
  • Prepare cost studies relating to facility and utility improvement and renovation projects.
  • Prepare and coordinate for state review the submission of individual construction project requests, required back-up material, program statements, justification and cost estimates.
  • Communicate and develop professional working relationships with other state agencies, vendors and design professionals.
  • Act as the University's construction liaison.
  • Review existing facilities, renovation requests and project design documents for code compliance, function and equipment requirements.
  • Prepare the annual space inventory update and reconciliation of physical space.
  • Assign building and room numbers in accordance with standard practice and UW System policy.
  • Maintain inventory of all physical spaces to show current use, occupancy and utilization.
  • Receive, maintain, update and interpret Central Data Request instructions from the UW System.
  • Maintain and update digital building plans and maps for purposes dealing directly with space management and campus development.
  • Assist the Director, office staff and shop supervisors in responding to campus user issues and needs.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, urban planning, construction management, interior design or related field at time of application
  • Three years professional post-degree work experience in either capital planning, implementation and oversight of capital projects and/or building design with project estimating
  • Professional working knowledge of AutoCad and/or Microstation
  • Demonstrated ability to address space needs with creative solutions
  • Independent judgement and creativity
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Ability to use computer-aided design software and database software
  • Strong document organization skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in project management, planning and programming in higher education and/or institutional facilities
  • Working knowledge of the International Building Code, ADAAG and it's application
  • Good understanding of LEED or sustainable standards in the construction industry
Conditions of Appointment:

Position is a full-time academic staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). Special Conditions of Appointment: Duties may require work beyond normal working hours due to building system emergencies or project construction issues. Limited travel or overnight stays will be required during the year to other state agencies.
Salary:

Salary Range of $60,000-$70,071; the UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan. (Total Compensation Estimator).
