Position Information

Title: Academic Department Associate

Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Department Chairperson for Public and Environmental Affairs and is responsible for guest support, reception, administrative and budget support for Community Sciences (Democracy and Justice Studies, Public and Environmental Affairs, and Urban and Regional Studies). This position is responsible for providing support for approximately 35 faculty and instructors. This position will work full-time during the nine months of the academic year and half-time during summer months.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provision of budget related services.
  • Management of Community Sciences office.
  • Provision of administrative support for the Department Chairpeople.
  • Provision of Instructional Technology and Online Learning Services.
  • Miscellaneous office duties.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma at time of application
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of internet browsers and email
  • Knowledge and experience using relevant software packages i.e. Microsoft Suite software
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years of related experience
  • Experience working with statistical software and databases (SPSS, Excel, Access)
  • Experience with integrated student information systems (e.g. PeopleSoft Student Administration software)
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Experience managing grant budgets

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and exceptional accuracy; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions of Appointment

Position is an 87.5% University Staff appointment. This position will work full time during the 9 months of the academic year, and half-time during the summer months. The work hours for this position will be between 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Salary

Hourly salary range of $15.42 - $16.25.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
