Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Manager of Network and Infrastructure and serves as part of the Network Systems and Infrastructure team. This position is responsible for assisting with the installation, setup, debugging, and troubleshooting of Windows server systems, VMware, Office 365, and the Storage Area Network. In addition to software and hardware maintenance, this position provides support, monitoring, problem diagnosis, and issue resolution for Windows servers.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Deploy and manage virtual and physical Windows servers, including server provisioning, upgrading, monitoring, maintaining, performance optimization, and providing diagnosis and remediation of server and application issues on Windows 2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016.
  • Deploy and manage application software: work with vendors and units to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot issues. Coordinate upgrades, conduct testing, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Assist with functions such as monthly server security patching, updates, troubleshooting, reporting, and follow-up actions.
  • Support Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server, Office 365, Exchange/Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and administer third party application software on Windows servers and work with vendors and/or departments to coordinate schedules.
  • Provide timely technical support for users and work with them to solve existing problems.
  • Work with vendors in the research, development, and implementation of server technologies.
  • Prepare and maintain written documentation for server and application environments.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, access rights and quotas on Windows servers. Including assisting in the allocation and maintenance of the enterprise storage.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and remediate issues with Windows servers.
  • Ensure high availability and peak performance of mission critical host computer resources.
  • Implement security procedures to maintain and protect systems.
  • Schedule, coordinate, manage, monitor, and issues resolution of enterprise server and storage backup procedures. Including the setup and testing of the backup operations and procedures.
  • Maintain procedures for replication of backup media and catalogs between primary, backup, disaster-recovery, and off-campus storage sites.
  • Periodically review backup operations to balance load and amount of time for the backup, as well as developing, testing, and implementing enhancements to improve performance and resilience of system backups.
  • Communicate to others on the progress, notifications of impeding changes to planned outages.
  • Attend seminars, workshops, and other training sessions to maintain proficiency with evolving information technology requirements and capabilities.



  • High school diploma at time of application
  • 1 year of experience supporting Windows servers and enterprise applications
  • Knowledge of data communications, network technologies, server hardware, storage systems, or operating systems
  • Practical experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.


  • Bachelor´s degree in a related field
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience with performance monitoring and analysis of networks and server systems
  • Experience with vendor evaluation and relationship management
  • Experience with project and operational budgeting

Conditions of Appointment

Some evening and weekend hours as needed for upgrades and system troubleshooting.

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Salary range of $45,000-$65,000 

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
