Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Outreach Program Manager under the Wisconsin Sea Grant and will provide guidance, training, and technical assistance for the Wisconsin Clean Marina Program, a state-wide program that certifies marinas adopting best management practices that protect water quality and aquatic habitat. The Program Coordinator, with assistance from the Technical Team, Wisconsin Coastal Management Program, and Wisconsin Marine Association, will be responsible for the certification and re-certification of Wisconsin marinas into the Clean Marina Program.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct onsite inspections for marina certification and re-certifications.
  • Recruit pledged and non-participating marinas.
  • Develop and organize trainings.
  • Provide technical assistance.
  • Participate in relevant state and regional collaborative networks.
  • Update the Clean Marina Program Best Practices Guidebook.
  • Write newsletter articles relevant to best management practices.
  • Prepare progress reports and final projects report.
  • Assist with boater surveys and improving boater education to increase clean boater practices.
  • Promote patronage of certified marinas.



  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, water resource management, engineering, planning, or related field at time of application
  • Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a valid driver's license upon appointment


  • Masters Degree or 3 years of relevant experience

Conditions of Appointment

Travel to Wisconsin marinas is expected, and some overnight travel will occur.

Position is approximately a 3-year, part-time (50%) Academic Staff appointment, with an expected end date of June 30, 2021, contingent upon training progress, funding availability, program needs, and satisfactory performance. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Actual salary based upon a 50% appointment is $22,880 (full-time equivalent annual salary of $45,760).
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
