This internship provides students with experience in collection and archive management for museum exhibits focusing on the history, art and culture of Northeast Wisconsin. Internship duties have included, for example, creating and maintaining collections of museum records and artifacts, conducting research for particular museum exhibits, compiling oral histories, mounting exhibits, working on museum installations and exhibit design, interacting with community, and/or writing public relations materials.

This internship also provides students with a variety of work experience in the areas of collection and archive management and public relations, involving among other things, inventorying artifacts and records relevant to Native American culture, researching exhibits on this theme serving as museum tour guide, assisting with registrations and public relations materials.
National Railroad Museum

Student interns at the National Railroad Museum have gained insight into American history through their work cataloging the museum's timetable collection, researching new railroad history exhibits, revising educational materials, writing newsletter articles, and conducting marketing research for the museum. Working under the supervision of the Museum's curator, interns are able to develop the professional skills of a historian while exploring various careers in the museum field. With an emphasis on research and analysis, interns assist the staff in historical interpretation; curatorial and archival management, which includes authenticating, processing, organizing, and describing historical artifacts and documents; and, creating educational programming.

Area Research Center, Cofrin Library

This internship introduces students to the resources in the Area Research Center, the official repository for the Wisconsin Historical Society’s manuscripts and public county records collections of northeast Wisconsin. Students in this internship will work on projects related to archival research on a variety of topics.
