Independent Study
Independent Study allows students to earn credit exploring special interests in-depth outside of a classroom setting. A student must identify an appropriate topic, locate a faculty member willing to oversee the project, and prepare a statement of objectives.
An Independent Study does not substitute for a course regularly offered.
Credit Requirement Guidelines
- For one credit, a student
should demonstrate a broad base knowledge of available
literature in a chosen subject. This includes library research with a
bibliography and paper.
- For two credits, a student should attain broadly-based or in-depth knowledge of the subject as demonstrated by a comprehensive paper based on the available literature with a substantial bibliography.
