Health Sciences Emphasis

The health sciences emphasis prepares students for graduate and professional programs in the biomedical sciences. If you are planning to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences, or attend medical/osteopathic, dental, optometry, or chiropractic school, this is the emphasis for you.

Exercise Science Emphasis

The exercise science emphasis offers students broad training in anatomy and physiology, with a focus on biomechanics, nutrition and/or psychology. This emphasis is appropriate for students who wish to pursue a career as a personal trainer, in sports medicine, physical therapy or occupational therapy, or who wish to pursue a graduate degree in exercise physiology or kinesiology.

Nutritional Sciences / Dietetics Emphasis

The nutritional sciences / dietetics emphasis focuses on the biological and physical principles of nutrition. This emphasis is accredited by the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association (ADA). Students who successfully complete this program may apply for entry into a dietetic internship program, which is required to become a registered dietetician (RD). Other opportunities for graduates that do not require an RD include pursuing a research career (including a master’s and/or Ph.D.) in nutrition or a related field, or employment in the fields of education, the food industry, food service management systems, community agencies, and healthcare organizations.

Crypto-technology Emphasis

The Crypto-technology emphasis prepares students for a career in Crypto-technology, the microscopic study of human cells for the detection of pre-cancerous conditions or cancer. Students pursuing the Crypto-technology emphasis within the human biology major complete 92 credits of coursework at UW-Green Bay (including their general education plan), after which they complete a year-long internship in Crypto-technology at one of our affiliated sites (Marshfield Clinic, Mayo Clinic, UW-Madison). Upon completion of the internship, students receive a degree in Human Biology and are eligible to take the exam to become a certified crypto-technologist.

General Human Biology Emphasis

The general human biology emphasis is appropriate for students seeking research, sales or managerial positions in biomedical, pharmaceutical, or health-related industries.

Human Biology Minors

There are two options for a minor in Human Biology. Please click on a minor to review course requirements.

General Human Biology Minor

This minor provides an overview of the field of Human Biology. A minimum of 20 credits is required, with at least 12 upper level credits.

Applied Human Biology Minor

Students majoring in biology or chemistry may desire a greater exposure to the potential applications of their discipline in solving medical problems. This minor provides several laboratory courses that fulfill this need, and provides a way to develop applied upper level laboratory skills as part of an interdisciplinary program.
