The Human Biology Major
is an interdisciplinary major that focuses on the study of the biological,
physiological, evolutionary, and behavioral aspects of the human organism's
ability to adapt to the environment. The core courses of the program emphasize
human structure and function, patterns of growth, development and aging,
genetics, nutrition, and human evolution and diversity.

Department News
Human Biology would like to welcome two new faculty.
- Dr. Kimberly Baker earned her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Development Biology from The Ohio State University. She most recently was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. While there, she taught Introductory Biology, Genetics, Developmental Genetics, Animal Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, and Oncogenes and the Molecular Biology of Cancer. Dr. Baker’s research focuses on developmental genetics in C. elegans. Dr. Baker will teach Principles of Biology I and Developmental Biology during the 2007-2008 academic year.
- Dr. Amanda Nelson earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Kinesiology with an Exercise Physiology emphasis. At the University of Illinois, she taught course in the Department of Kinesiology. Dr. Nelson’s research focuses on exercise training. Dr. Nelson will teach Anatomy and Physiology, Human Physiology, and Introduction to Human Biology during the 2007-2008 academic year.
