Program Overview
The Human Biology Major is an interdisciplinary major that focuses on the study of the biological, physiological, evolutionary, and behavioral aspects of the human organism's ability to adapt to the environment. The core courses of the program emphasize human structure and function, patterns of growth, development and aging, genetics, nutrition, and human evolution and diversity.
The Human Biology major consists of a minimum of 53 total credits; 30 of these credits must be upper division. Courses are grouped into Foundations (required supporting courses), Core (required upper level courses) and Emphasis (upper level courses which provide the focus for the major).
Goals of the Human Biology Program
Human Biology Majors complete an area of emphasis within the program. There are five areas of the major:
- General Human Biology
- Health Science
- Exercise Science
- Nutritional Science/ Dietetics
- Cyotechnology
Since Human Biology is an interdisciplinary major, a minor is not required. However, many students choose a minor, such as Chemistry, Spanish, or Business Administration, depending on your career choice. Consult an advisor if you are considering a minor.
