Creative Approaches to Teaching Award

Call for Submissions 
Fall 2006

“Creative Approaches to Teaching” is a program sponsored by the Instructional Development Council to encourage communication among faculty about creative and effective teaching practice. Faculty and instructional academic staff members are invited to write a brief description of a successful teaching strategy or classroom assessment technique that has worked well for them. Any exercise, teaching approach, or assessment strategy that you have personally used and found to be successful may be submitted.  

Please take a few minutes to describe one of your most creative and effective teaching strategies or assessment techniques. If your strategy or technique is selected, you will receive $100 (payroll) and some well-deserved recognition.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:  October 30, 2006 

Selection criteria include:
1.         the degree of innovation
2.         the degree of applicability to courses outside your field
3.         the extent to which your strategy or technique adheres to sound pedagogical practice
4.         the extent to which the description of your strategy or technique is clear and straightforward

To submit a strategy or technique, please provide the information requested below. Please limit your narrative to 1-2 pages and send as an e-mail attachment (in Word) to Timothy Sewall, Associate Provost, sewallt@uwgb.edu by October 30, 2006.

3.         Your office location and phone number
4.         Date submitted
5.         In 1-2 pages, describe the teaching strategy or assessment technique that you would like considered. Be sure to clearly state the strategy’s purpose and the type of class (e.g., large, lecture, seminar) in which the strategy works best. The strategy does not have to be something that you personally developed, only something that you have personally used and found to be effective.  Provide sufficient detail so that others might adapt the strategy or technique to their teaching needs.
