Call for Grant Proposals
Spring 2008

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Extended to March 24, 2008

The Instructional Development Council invites proposals for Teaching Enhancement Grants.  As part of the faculty development program at UW-Green Bay, the Instructional Development Council has set aside grant funds to provide monetary support for professional development activities or projects that can lead to the improvement of teaching skills. The Instructional Development Council issues two calls for Teaching Enhancement Grant proposals each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Funds must be expended before the end of the fiscal year (i.e., by August 29, 2008).

Eligibility.  All faculty, lecturers and teaching academic staff with full-time contracts for the 2007-08 academic year are eligible to submit proposals.  Priority will be given to requests submitted by individuals who have not received Teaching Enhancement Grant funding within the last 12 months.

Amount of Grant.  Up to $1,000 may be awarded, but funds must be expended before June 30, 2008.  Funds can be paid as a stipend, to purchase supplies, or other related expenses.  Funding can be requested for a second year, but the total amount awarded for a single project (or related parts of the project) cannot exceed $1,000.

Purposes.  The Teaching Enhancement Grants program is designed to support professional development activities that will enhance a faculty member's teaching skills or result in the development of innovative teaching strategies.  Examples of the types of activities funded by this grant program include:

1.  Developing materials or testing innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.
2.  Developing learning activities and teaching strategies for service learning projects.
3.  Conducting workshops designed to enhance general teaching effectiveness.
4.  Participating in professional development activities, such as workshops, seminars, or intensive short-courses designed to improve teaching.
5.  Testing innovative classroom assessment techniques.
6.  Developing or implementing a course-based assessment strategy with the aim of improving student learning.
7.  Conducting research to advance a scholarly investigation related to teaching.

Note: This program is not intended to provide funds to (1) attend out-of-state conferences or meetings; (2) present research results when the focus of the research is unrelated to teaching; (3) pay for course field trips, guest lecturers, or special equipment; or (4) activities that are more appropriately funded by budgetary units.

Submission Procedures.  A copy of the Cover Sheet (click here) and Itemized Budget Form (click here) must be completed by the faculty member(s), signed by the budgetary unit chair, and stapled at the top of each copy of the proposal.  Proposals should not exceed five pages (double-spaced, 12-point type), including the Cover Sheet.  Proposals must include:

1.  A completed Cover Sheet
2.  A completed Itemized Budget Form
3.  A project description
4.  A description of the project's goals, including an explanation of how the project relates to                                teaching enhancement. Specific examples are required.
5   An implementation time line for the project
6   A conference or workshop brochure (i.e., official description of the event) if the grant proposal includes an in-state travel request.

Five (5) copies of each Teaching Enhancement Grant proposal, including the Cover Sheet and Itemized Budget Form should be sent to: Timothy Sewall, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, CL 835 (PROVOST). An electronic copy of the proposal including Cover Sheet (unsigned) and Budget Form should also be sent to sewallt@uwgb.edu.

Individuals submitting grant proposals should not assume that they will be funded if they submit something analogous or similar to a previously successful proposal. Nor should they assume that they will be denied funding.
