The Multicultural Networking Event is the 5th Annual University of Wisconsin Green Bay Multicultural Networking reception that brings together students with local community role models who have achieved professional success and can inspire young people to do the same. The primary purpose of the event is to teach students the importance of networking and to create an opportunity to build skills to do it effectively. The Multicultural Networking Event has been moved to the fall this year to encourage mentor relationships to continue throughout the year. To that end, added to the evening will be a rapid fire meet and greet session, where in a short period of time each student will talk one-on-one with a community professional to share experiences, ideas and resources.
UW Green Bay staff play a vital role in the relationship building process for multicultural students. All campus staff are invited and encouraged to attend.

- Saturday, October 20, 2012 - 5:00pm Phoenix Rooms, University Union

As the Latino population has become the largest population of color in the country, there is increased scrutiny into how it defines itself racially. This is evident by the number of articles published in the national media and a recent study by the Lewis Mumford Center for Comparative Urban and Regional Research. How do they see themselves? As white? As indigenous? As black? As mixed? These questions are explored at the Ally Conference as Jorge Zeballos, an experienced diversity consultant, speaks about the racial identity of Latinas and Latinos by examining the historical and contemporary forces that shape that identity. After setting the historical context, participants are led through an honest dialogue on the impact of this issue on the struggle for social justice in this country and in Latin America.
