INFORMATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND STUDENT JOB DESCRIPTIONS

*ACCESS SERVICES  includes the Circulation/Reserve and Interlibrary Loan Departments.

*ADMINISTRATION OFFICES  provides administrative assistance to the Associate Provost and Information Services staff.  Job duties include using MS Office such as Word, Excel and Outlook for word processing, typing, filing, budget work, photocopying, faxing, answering phones, and monitoring supply inventory. This position also provides some administrative assistance to the Library Director and Library Staff that also includes book invoicing. Hours are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*COLLECTION MANAGEMENT LIBRARY/ART SLIDES  contains the library’s collection of art slides.  Job duties include check-out, check-in and filing slides and maintaining paperwork for faculty and student users.  Assistants also shoot new slides, mount and computer process labels for slides.  Art history or art background required.  Hours are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CIT)  serves both administrative and academic users.         
CIT supports the General Access Computer labs including four classrooms.  All units in the labs are connected to the campus backbone providing access to PC software as well as mainframe, e-mail, and Internet access.

*COMPUTING LIBRARY REFERENCE  Library Computer Lab Consultants work alongside Reference Department staff in providing customer service and technical support for students and guests using a variety of campus software packages such as MS Office applications and equipment such as printers, scanners, photocopiers, and  microfilm readers. Students also provide directional assistance and basic support for library databases and services, and may assist Reference staff with projects involving library electronic resources.  Hours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays and 9-4 on Fridays.

*LEARNING TECHNOLOGY CENTER (LTC)  The LTC assists faculty and staff in their use of technology toenhance instruction.  Much of what we do is in support of D2L, our campus course management system, but we also provide technical help in areas such as podcasting, video production, wikis, clickers, web development, image editing, presentations, and many others. Students employed by the LTC answer questions on the phone and from faculty and staff who stop in, and work on special projects supporting technology in education.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, high proficiency of computer software, good troubleshooting and problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently. Top candidates are not expected to know everything before they come in, but will learn as they gain experience. We train and mentor our students. The LTC is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*LIBRARY PROCESSING  includes Acquisitions, Cataloging, Government Documents, and Serials.
Hours are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*LIBRARY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS  is a public service area where staff members help student and community patrons with historical research, class projects, and family history.  The Special Collections Department houses historical documents pertaining to Northeastern Wisconsin, and borrows/loans materials throughout a statewide network.  Job duties include providing reference help to both on-site and off-site researchers; retrieving and shelving materials; copier and computer assistance, packing/unpacking of borrowed/loaned materials, working on specialized projects with original records (i.e. indexing, sorting, preservation tasks); some routine clerical work; and outreach activities.  Hours are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*MEDIA SERVICES  provides instructional technology support to faculty, staff, and students on campus using portable equipment, permanent classroom equipment, technology classrooms and the campus film & video collection.  Job duties include the delivery, set up, and pick up of portable equipment throughout the campus and instructing people in the use of permanent classroom equipment and technology classrooms.  The position is also responsible for the daily operations of the office which includes answering phone calls, completing deliveries, performing equipment inventory and maintenance, and assisting faculty, staff, and students with questions.  Hours are scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

*TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND ENGINEERING  provides installation and wiring of campus telephone and data lines, and the repair and installation of various electronic equipment. Job duties include inventory control, cable pulling, assisting the technicians as needed, and limited clerical tasks.  Hours are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

*WEB SERVICES  The Web Services Office designs, develops and maintains the University's Web presence. This includes the top level pages of the University's site, academic program sites, and various special projects.  Student Web Assistants help to develop and track assigned projects through to completion. Support or assist the University Webmaster with web development and web design duties, as needed. Designing/coding new web pages as needed using HTML, XHTML, CSS, and ASP. Other tasks as assigned. Hours are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
