A sign language interpreter will be present on the platform during the Installation ceremony.

Delegates

UW-Green Bay welcomes delegates to march in the Processional and Recessional at the Installation ceremony.

Participation

Participation as a delegate will involve processing in cap and gown as a large group that will be seated in the first few rows of the theater (not as part of the platform party on stage). The delegate procession will be led by marshals. Delegates will be seated in order of the founding year of the institution they represent and academic rank. Delegate names and the names and founding year of the institutions they represent will be printed in the program. After the the hour-long ceremony is concluded, delegates will process out.

UW-Green Bay Faculty and Staff

UW-Green Bay Faculty and Staff are invited to process as delegates, representing the institution from which they earned their highest degree. UW-Green Bay employees may order complimentary rental of academic regalia from The Phoenix Bookstore until Friday, October 10.

UW-Green Bay Faculty and Staff who choose not to participate in the ceremony as delegates are invited to attend as regular guests in casual dress attire and may seat themselves in general seating behind the delegates.

Robing and Preparation

Delegates will be greeted at the rear entrance of the Weidner Center and will be directed to Fort Howard Hall for robing from 1:30-2 p.m. Delegates are asked to furnish their own academic regalia. Light refreshments will be available in the robing room. Building doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

Gary Leon Miller assumed his duties as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on August 1, 2014. He brings to his position a commitment to expand community partnerships, foster student learning and champion the power of higher education to change lives.

Traditions

The installation ceremony will highlight traditions and symbols familiar for centuries across American higher education and around the world. Many of these customs originated with the academies of medieval Europe, especially England. Others have been specially adapted by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay as the nearly 50-year-old institution develops and embraces its own traditions.

University Mace

The University Mace is a ceremonial staff signifying authority and will lead the academic procession and be carried to the stage by the University’s most senior faculty member, Prof. Kumar Kangayappan.

During the ceremony, Gary Leon Miller will signify his commitment to the UW-Green Bay mission by adding his signature to the document which is stored as a scroll inside the handle of the University Mace.

University Medallion

University Medallion

UW System President Ray Cross will present the University Medallion, a symbol of office, to Gary Leon Miller, placing it around the Chancellor’s shoulders, as a centerpiece of the Nov. 14 installation.

Event Parking Information

Signs will be posted to direct guests from off campus to reserved parking in the Weidner Center lots.

Campus parking permits will not be required the day of the Installation, Friday, November 14, 2014. Tickets for permit violation will not be issued.

Valet parking will be available.

A sign language interpreter will be present on the platform during the Installation ceremony.
