This federal scholarship is for students planning to study for at least six weeks in an area of the world critical to national security. (Africa, Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East). After graduation, recipients are required to seek federal employment in national security affairs. The application deadline is noted on the website. Awards range from $2,500 to $20,000.

There are many different types of scholarships with this program anywhere from summer grants to graduate study grants. Awards range from $2000 to actual program costs.

This scholarship is for U.S. citizens at the freshmen, sophomore, and junior level, who wish to study the Asian languages in Asian countries for a minimum of eight weeks. Awards range between $3000 and $7000. There are three application deadlines are in November, March, and April.

Gilman International Scholarship (http://www.iie.org/gilman) This scholarship is for students planning to study abroad anywhere in the world for a semester or academic year. You must be receiving a Pell Grant to be eligible. Awards vary up to $5000. Deadlines are in October and April.
Marshall Scholarship (http://www.marshallscholarship.org)
The British government established this full-ride scholarship to thank the United States for assistance during World War II. It is good for two years of graduate study at any university in the United Kingdom. Submit the application in mid-September, at least two years before obtaining your bachelor’s degree. You must have a 3.7 GPA or above.
