RULES

  1. The competition is open to singers born between November 23, 1974 and November 23, 1991. The laureates of first prizes at a national or international competition in 2008 or 2009 (proof required) and laureates of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques programme in 2008 or 2009 will access directly to the semi-final of the competition.

  2. The candidate must send, with his registration form, a resume, a photography, a proof of citizenship and a proof of birth by Friday, November 13, 2009. Faxed or e-mailed documents will not be accepted

  3. a) The registration fee for the candidates who will do the first two rounds in Canada is 75 Canadian dollars, not reimbursable and must be sent by certified cheque or postal money order, in the name of Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20, with the registration form by Friday, November 13, 2009 at the latest to 4946 rue Hortie, Pierrefonds, Québec, H8Y 1Z3, Canada. Personal cheques will be refused.
        b) The registration fee for the candidates who will do the first two rounds in the USA is 65 US dollars, not reimbursable, and  must be sent by certified cheque or postal money order, in the name of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, with the registration form by Friday, November 13, 2009 at the latest to 2420 Nicolet drive, Green Bay, WI, 54311-7001, USA. Personal cheques will be refused

  4. The candidate who wishes to have an accompanist must advise the administration and pay an additional 40 Canadian dollars or 35 US dollars at the time of registration. A pianist will be offered by the competition for no extra fee for the finals in Montreal.

  5. The competition is in three rounds:
         a) First round: Maximum duration of 10 minutes 
         An operatic aria of the candidate’s choice
         b) Semi-Final: Maximum duration of 15 minutes
         An operatic aria of the candidate’s choice different from the first round, and an operatic aria or a melody from a Czech or Slovak composer.
         c) Final round: Maximum duration of 20 minutes
         An operatic aria of the candidate’s choice, an aria from a Czech or Slovak opera and a Czech or Slovak melody, all different from the previous two rounds

  6. All music must be memorized. It is recommended that the candidate sing the Czech and Slovak works in the original language.

  7. The decisions of the jury are irrevocable. The jury reserves the right not to give a prize or to divide a prize in two.

  8. Some finalist candidates in the United States will receive a travel allocation to participate in the final in Montreal.

  9. The winner of the First Prize will receive an amount of 4000 Canadian dollars in cash from his total 5000 Canadian dollars bursary. Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 will keep the remaining amount of 1000 Canadian dollars for the singer’s transportation fees to perform concerts or engagements in Europe or Canada, offered by the competition partners. If this amount is not used for this purpose in the 12 months following the competition, the candidate will get the money at the end of this period. The laureate must carry out these responsibilities between January 1st and December 31st, 2010. The final dates for the concerts and training sessions are the responsibility of the European partners after consultation with the laureate.

  10. Laureates of prizes must accept to perform at the gala concert of the Rencontres Musicales Tchèques et Slovaques on Saturday November 28, 2009 in Montreal.

  11. Laureates of prizes are required to mention that they are winners of the competition in their resume for a period of at least two years after the gala.

  12. Mailing of the candidate’s registration documents must be postmarked by Friday, November 13, 2009 at the latest. Late and incomplete registrations will be refused.

  13. Once registered, the candidate will not be allowed to modify his repertoire or his hour of convocation.

  14. The candidate and his accompanist must be on the site of the competition at least 20 minutes before the time of convocation.

  15. In case of cancellation, the candidate must advise Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 or the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s administration directly.
