Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is considered one of the most dynamic cities on the Mediterranean Coast.  It is a city of exciting contrasts, blending gothic cathedrals with modern art and architecture.  The A.B.C. Language Center: Instituto Espanol de Cultura specializes in teaching Spanish as a foreign language.  Earn 4 credits while spending 5 weeks studying in Barcelona.

The A.B.C. Language Center: Instituto Espanol de Cultura is a large language school set in a six story building in the city of Barcelona.  All of the classrooms are fully equipped with audiovisual facilities.  There is also a penthouse terrace atop the building, where students can enjoy a beautiful view of Barcelona.  The Language Center, founded in 1991, is an accredited center and specializes in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. 

Students will enroll for a 4-credit Spanish Study Abroad Course at UW-Green Bay.  While in Barcelona, all students will spend approximately 4 hours each day (Monday-Friday) in class.  A placement test will be given on the first Monday of classes to ensure that students are placed into the appropriate level of classes.  Class sizes are small and vary from 5-12 students.  All classes are conducted completely in Spanish.

Students will be placed with a local host family in Barcelona.  The home stay accommodations allow students to continue practicing their language skills outside of the classroom while immersing themselves in the culture.  All families are carefully chosen by A.B.C. in collaboration with UW-Green Bay.

Eligibility

• Have completed at least one semester of college Spanish
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.4 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Demonstrate personal maturity and flexibility

This program will fulfill the Wisconsin DPI requirement of language immersion experience for teacher certification.

This course is found in the UW-Green Bay Course Timetable as Spanish 285/485.  Students who have completed 5 semesters of College Spanish will receive upper level credits for this course.  All other students will receive lower level credits.
