Aalborg, Denmark

With 160,000 people, Aalborg is Denmark's fourth largest city. Aalborg is situated on the narrowest part of the picturesque Limfjord, amid wood-covered hills, moors, and shallow marshes. Some of Denmark's most beautiful beaches are within thirty minutes of town.
Aalborg is generally known as an exciting town offering a wide range of attractions. In addition to many cultural events, you will enjoy the social atmosphere of
Aalborg's entertainment district, Jomfu Ane Gade. The city is home to more restaurants, pubs and cafes per person than any other city in Denmark. Jomfu Ane Gade contains the single longest continuous stretch of restaurants, pubs and music cafes in the country.
It is usually busiest on Saturday nights, but is almost always full of activity. Students studying in Aalborg will be immersed in Danish culture.
Aalborg University: Founded in 1974, Aalborg Universitet is the youngest of Denmark's five universities and is home to more than 12,000 students. The university campus is situated in the southern part of Aalborg, about three miles from the center of town. Breaking away from the traditional university concept and lecture form, Aalborg University offers its own unique personality founded on an innovative teaching methodology. The university's approach to teaching is interdisciplinary and studies are problem-oriented and centered around group work.
Accommodations: Students studying in Aalborg generally have a private room in a
University Residence Hall. Kitchen and living areas are shared with other Danish and international students. There are also a very limited number of single-person apartments (flats) available. Requests will be made after students have been approved to this program.
Application Process: All interested students should pick up an application form from the Office of International Education (Rose Hall 310). In order to be eligible for this program, all students must:
- Have at least sophomore standing by the beginning of the program
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
- There is no foreign language requirement for this program.
- Demonstrate personal maturity and flexibility
Complete the application form and submit it to the Office of International Education (OIE) by the application deadline.
Program Dates: This program is offered for the fall semester, spring semester or the entire academic year.
- Fall Semester: Early September-Late January
- Spring Semester: Late January-Early July
- Academic Year: Early September-Early July
The Aalborg Exchange Program: Students studying at Aalborg University through
UW-Green Bay's exchange program will gain independence by traveling to Aalborg and spending a semester or year abroad. All of the courses will be taught in English, but students will also enroll in a Danish language course to learn some of the basics. Lectures and seminars are taught in the beginning of the semester with the remainder of the time used for project oriented group work. Most students enroll in the International Cultural Studies Program, which includes studies and research of culture, communications, politics, history and language.
