NEWS about enrollment reporting changes starting in Fall 2004.

UW-Green Bay has always served a variety of students, ranging from degree-seeking undergraduates in a traditional delivery format all the way to adults participating in programs sponsored by Outreach & Extension, a special branch of the University  of Wisconsin designed to meet the needs of adult learners.  The state of Wisconsin uses different methods to funds different kinds of learners.  Courses at UW-Green Bay that are part of the bachelor's and master's curricula are supported by tax revenues in a fund that is named "102".

Prior to Fall 2004, enrollment-related reports produced by UW-Green Bay's office of Institutional Research only included 102-funded activities.  Enrollments in Outreach & Extension, Study Abroad, Grant-funded programs, and Remedial courses, which all have their own unique funding arrangements, were excluded from most reports and summaries.

Starting in Fall 2004, reports will be comprehensive: all credit-generating activity that is processed through the UW-Green Bay student information system will be included.

One concept that plays a special role in enrollment reporting is the Full-time Equivalent (FTE) student.  The state of Wisconsin defines an FTE as 15 credits of 102-funded undergraduate coursework or 9 credits of 102-funded graduate coursework.  The University of Wisconsin System Administration carefully tracks the number of FTEs each campus serves using the revenues available in fund 102.  The federal government has a different definition of a full-time equivalent: one full-time student or 1/3 of a part-time student.  The Federal FTE (FFTE) is more relevant for comprehensive enrollment reports and will be used on most enrollment-related reports beginning in Fall 2004.

Because of these changes, reports from prior years will not always be comparable to data presented starting in Fall 2004.  If you need accurate trends, contact Debbie Furlong at the Office of Institutional Research.
