Fall 2004 Enrollment UpdateThis week's regular enrollment report has been replaced by a detailed look at what happened on the first day of R & R. The regular report will return after the Fall 2004 freshmen have completed registering. On Tuesday, June 9, 2004, the student information system processed enrollment requests from 159 new fall freshmen. The average R & R participant completed the day with enrollments in 5.5 course sections (including labs and discussion sections), and with an average credit load of 14.6. Only 4 participants (2.5% of the total), registered for fewer than 12 credits. About one fifth of the participants (21%) dropped courses during the process of registering. Most of those, 15%, dropped a single course. 5% dropped two courses. Only two students, 1% of the total, appear to have made major changes to their initial course selections. Excluding labs, discussions and independent instruction, Tuesday's R & R participants enrolled in 85 different courses spread across 175 different class sections. The vast majority of registrations, 92%, occurred in 100-level classes, with 6% in 200-level classes, 2% in remedial classes and 0.1% in 300-level classes. The table below lists courses that attracted at least 5% of Tuesday's participants. I will replicate some of these figures next week, halfway through R & R, to see how course availability impacts students' choices.
