Brown County's Forgotten World War I
Soldiers
With the help of a History Channel "Save Our History Grant," the
Neville Public Museum, Preble High School, and the University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay have digitized and made accessible a long-forgotten
and heretofore underutilized archival collection of hundred of records
relating to Brown County, Wisconsin, soldiers from World War I. Using
this web site, you can access the digital archive, find lesson plans
for educators, and learn about a museum exhibit featuring the
collection. This project has rescued and made available publicly an
incredibly important and rare archival collection (which includes
interviews, letters, and photographs) in order to help students,
teachers, and the greater Green Bay community reconnect with the lives
and stories of these World War I veterans. This web site also provides
three links for teachers. The S.O.A.P.S. link provides a strategy for
dealing with primary sources. You'll need this workskeet and this student evaluation form to work with the
S.O.A.P.S. method. Also, there are two lesson plans created by two
history teachers at Preble High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
