Darrell Patterson, a graduate of both Emporia State University and the University of Oregon, is an Associate Lecturer of English Composition and academic tutor and mentor for Green Bay student-athletes. He began as a volunteer in the summer of 2004 and became a paid, part-time employee in September 2008. Patterson works to ease the transition of student-athletes into college life as well as provide tutoring consisting of study skill tips, test preparation and techniques for dealing with balancing academics and athletics. Patterson was previously an employee of Algoma public schools where he worked for 29 years before he retired in 2008. In his time there, he taught English, physical education and health. He also coached track, basketball, baseball and wrestling and officiated basketball and volleyball. Additionally, he served as the academic competition advisor, athletics director and the drama director for musicals. Patterson has also worked as a disc jockey for several radio stations, the most recent being WOGB in Green Bay. In 2006, he was named the Wisconsin State Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. Patterson was also a talented athlete, as he recorded a time of 2:39:56 in the Boston Marathon.
