Using the age data in Data Set 1 on p. 184 as an example, here is how to do the one variable summary on the TI-86:

Step 1 Delete old lists: 2nd STAT, F2(EDIT), select name of list (xStat or fStat) to delete with cursor, CLEAR, ENTER

Step 2 Enter data to be summarized: Put the cursor on the first row under xStat, [enter data] , ENTER. Repeat twenty times until all the rows are filled . Now put the cursor under fStat and enter ten ‘1's in these rows. EXIT.

Step 3 Select the One Variable Summary: 2nd STAT, F1(CALC), F1(OneVa), ENTER

Step 4 Look at the Results: Using the down arrow(cursor), step through the summary and note the answers. You should get: xbar=43.35
