The Lawton Gallery is a 1700 sq. foot gallery located in the Theatre Arts Building in the heart of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus. Open during the Spring and Fall semesters the Lawton presents seven exhibitions a year. Intended to complement and augment the academic programs of the university, the gallery showcases the work of students and faculty as well as regional, national and international artists. The Lawton Gallery serves as an important cultural and educational resource within the lives of the students, faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Lawton Gallery is also a partner in the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's outreach mission and is committed to enhancing and engaging with the cultural resources in the larger community.
The present Lawton Gallery opened its doors in 1982 as a result of a substantial gift from Randall and Catherine Lawton. Over its twenty years of operation it has hosted over 135 exhibitions including the Annual Student Juried Exhibition, Annual Faculty Exhibition, Biennial Midwest Photography Invitational (and touring exhibition), and Annual Senior Exhibition.
The Lawton Gallery also serves as the laboratory experience for courses and internships in the Arts Management minor. This minor consists of three courses that introduce students to the day-to-day operations of a gallery, the issues involved in exhibition design and installation as well as theoretical issues pertinent to exhibition display and the broader museum field.
